Genshin Impact is a free-to-play action RPG developed by miHoYo. It’s an open-world game that takes place in the fictional land of Teyvat. You play as a traveler from another world looking for your lost twin. As you take on heroic quests, face dangerous foes, and unlock tricky puzzles, you’ll harness powerful elements to help you overcome all the challenges you’ll face. 

If you’ve played Zelda: Breath of the Wild, you’ll notice a lot of similarities between the two. Both games have the same look and feel to them graphically, and many of the in-game mechanics share the same characteristics. Such as the ability to climb over anything, gliding through the air, and combat. But while similar, Genshin Impact is still its own game with plenty of other tricks up its sleeve to set itself apart. 

Starting from the beginning 

As a traveler, you can move between worlds. After arriving in Teyvat a sorceress attacks you and your sibling. Your twin is captured, and you end up losing consciousness. 

After waking up on a beach, you must start the main quest to find her. Unlike Zelda: Breath of the Wild, you can choose from a long list of 30+ playable characters—each with their own unique set of elemental abilities, fighting styles, and talents. Although they’re not all available initially, you can unlock them as you progress through the game. 

Once unlocked, you can take advantage of each character’s elemental abilities to interact with the world in new ways by freezing water so you can walk on it or create wind currents to traverse unclimbable mountains. There are nine elements in total you can master.  

When it comes to fighting your enemies, you can create a party of up to 4 characters and instantly switch between them. This lets you land devastating combos by mixing each of the elements. Drenching your foes in water before following up with an electrical attack is just one way to multiply the amount of damage you can quickly do. You can also use the environment in the same way. When it rains, you can freeze enemies with an ice attack or electrocute them. Setting fire to dry grass and using the wind element to blow it towards an enemy camp can cause significant damage, especially when it sets of explosive barrels. 

But you’re not the only one with elemental abilities. Many of your opponents in the world of Teyvat also have elemental powers and will do their best to target your weaknesses.

Play Genshin Impact with friends

Genshin Impact is primarily a single-player game, but you can team up with friends. Once you have reached Adventure Rank 16, you can party together with up to 3 friends on specific adventures. 

Once you’ve reached the required level, open the Paimon menu and tap “Co-op.” A new bar will open up where you can enter your friend’s UserID. Each UserID is found beneath your icon in the Paimon menu, and your friend has to be online. Otherwise, you won’t be able to invite them. 

If you want to play with random people during your adventures, you can scroll down the list of other player’s worlds you can join instead of searching for a specific player. Genshin Impact can become challenging at later levels, and any help is surely appreciated by most players when tackling formidable enemies and bosses with lots of health. 

Is Genshin Impact free on Android? 

Genshin Impact is free to download and play. You can purchase items, characters, and loot boxes if you want to speed up your progression, but you certainly don’t have to pay. If you're willing to get certain limited-time characters and weapons, however, then it's easy enough to do so. Nabbing one of the limited-time playable characters like Cyno and Ayaka is much easier with the new Wish Event banner type. It also gives you room for getting new characters to go up against new variations of enemies like the Abyss Heralds and Black Serpent Knights. 

The Masquerade of the Guilty

In Genshin Impact’s 4.2 update, players will be thrusted straight into the climax of the Fontaine Archon Quest. With this, players will be able to gain a better understanding of the region’s Archon, Furina—who will be made available in the first phase’s limited character event banner alongside the Dendro character, Baizhu, and the new 4-star Cryo catalyst, Charlotte—and will be able to explore two new areas filled with stunning views and even more mysteries to unlock. 

Following the completion of the latest Archon quest, players will also be able to unlock Furina’s dedicated story quest. The new areas will also unlock two new boss enemies, both of which have an affinity for Hydro. The All-Devouring Narwhal and Hydro Tulpa bosses will also provide drops that new characters will use in order to upgrade their stats and abilities. Meanwhile, in this update’s second phase, players will be able to pull for 5-star characters Cyno and Ayato in addition to their respective BiS weapons.

Players can also look forward to five thrilling events within this patch that will reward them with an array of rewards including Primogems, coins, as well as resource materials for characters and weapons alike. These events include the familiar Ley Line Overflow, where players can gain twice the drops from Ley Line challenges, and the Misty Dungeon: Realm of Water, where players will have the opportunity to test out various characters in domain challenges. 

In Thelxie's Fantastic Adventures event, players will have to participate in a number of mini-games in order to collect badges that they can exchange for rewards, as well as a free copy of the Fontaine character, Freminet. In the Graph Adversarial Technology Experiment Log event, on the other hand, you will have to make use of a special gadget to take images and collect samples from different subjects. Yes, Genshin Impact for Android has many of the same elements as Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, but it does expand upon them and creates a unique experience that feels very different. 

The vast roster of characters with their own personalities and combat abilities means that the gameplay will never be stale. And the fighting is fast and furious as you switch between your four party members and create devastating combos mixing up your elemental attacks. 

With co-op play, plenty of enemies, puzzles, and a vast world to explore, Genshin Impact is an exciting game worth playing.
